TANKA - The basic patterns

The basic patterns derive from my work as a wandering therapist and developed through the act of walking thousands of miles over the last 10 years.

It boils down to a simple practice of movement and breath but with these understandings:

Breathing is movement. When we breathe our body moves and movement takes place within our body. By focusing on minute processes of internal motion which originates with the breath, the Tanka patterns provide, first a dialogue with our body, second, enhance its functionality and vitality and finally, connect the body and the self in a way that enables more satisfaction from our interaction with the 'outer world'. Or, in more academic terms: achieving a more harmonious state between expressed motor movements and the autonomous nervous system, leading to improved psychosomatic responses.

The patterns are fairly simple and they can enhance, quite quickly:

The Cardio-respiratory system (through Increased Oxygen intake)

Muscle, sinews, tendons and overall posture

Joints flexibility

Balance

Stability

Spatial Orientation

The immune system

Vitality

Inner calmness

Following the Tanka instructor's patterns and supported by a group that moves and breathes together, the student is led to focus on the inner experience of his/her motion and breath. This attention to movement and breath leads, in turn, to a process of learning and development which is rewarded by all the benefits mentioned above.

The System

What I offer is a comprehensive learning experience which, in addition to the benefits of Tanka, develops Resilience to contemporary stress.
